History

Gothic dominance lasted until 711, when Tariq ibn Ziyad landed at
Gibraltar. Then Muslim armies took control over the southern
parts of Spain, called Al-Andalusia. The Arabian culture was
separated through the country and many Spanish people became
Muslims. The Arabian empire became politically independent and
strong. In the 10th century Abderraman III took al-Andalus
as his
own caliphate. Cordoba became very famous and recognizable
for its cultural center. Muslims built several magnificent palaces
and cathedrals that still exist from several centuries ago.

Unfortunately, this power did not
last because Muslims did not agree and each one had their own
ideas. That resulted in Al-Andalusia breaking into small
towns in the11th century. The marriage between Isabel
Castilia and Ferdinand of Aragon in 1469 allowed the Spanish
to return to power and that forced the Muslims to lose the last remaining
caliphate, Granada, in 1492. After that, in 1492, Spain experienced
a Golden Age when Christopher Columbus discovered America
and brought a lot of gold and silver to Spain. In 1808, Napoleon
and his brother took control over Spain, but Spaniards fought
hard with them until they won their freedom. In 1931,
Spain became a republic country instead of a monarchy.

General Franco died and Juan
Carlos de
